Quote: This "coin" needs to be authenticated That's a good idea. Way too many fakes out there.

I agree that it needs to be authenticated, but from the reverse picture (only), my gut feeling is that it is genuine. Coin pictured is 1876. the MS63 Photograde is 1874, (that is, if their obv and rev pictures are of the same coin). Best way is to get it slabbed and photographed, then ask us "us vs TPG." Confirm with PCGS if their MS63 is a variety die.

I would like to see a better photo of the reverse that is in focus, then I would provide opinion on authenticity and grade.

My concern on the OP coin is the feathers in eagle's neck look like type two and arrow over 2 is type one. It could be the photo making the feathers look type two.

I look at it a little different: Arrow over center of 2 is type two. Arrow at the back of 2 is type one.
Anyway the arrow is in the type one position.

I know nothing about these but... what's with the blank where folds should be above her foot, where the folds end round and then nothing? what's with the square block in the hay bale? where are the wheat stalks? Maybe it's the image or strike or die polishing or ? Just comparing against some Heritage images. I see enough to be suspicious, for what otherwise looks to be MS64 and maybe cleaned. $500-2000 coin a guy whips out in Wendy's isn't giving me a warm fuzzy. How well do you know him?

Even if I have known someone for several years, I'll still 'trust but verify' just because things can always unintentionally fall through the cracks etc. For what it's worth I do know this guy pretty well; he just sent me a new shot showing the luster a bit better: I'm going to create a separate new thread for the attribution of this coin for any interested parties.

Your coin appears to be genuine. I would grade it MS Details cleaned. It is a type 1 reverse and type 1 obverse. The coin reverse was made from a hub that was used from 73 to 76. Note the top of the E and F do not connect. Here is a photo of a 1876 PCGS MS63 with the same reverse. PCGS MS63 1876 OP Coin

W/r/t circulation condition please explain why the areas on the eagle's top wings, ear and chest would not be considered as having wear thus keeping it at a 58?:

I am fine with a grade of 58 Details. I was between 58 and 61, but I was having a hard time telling with the photos if the coin was AU or MS. If you are going to purchase, an argument can be make for an AU grade.
