Looks like it could have been a double strike, but the area is so small, if that's the case it may not add additional value.

I'd agree it's PMD.

If it's PMD why can one make out denticles and beadsan the very small portion that sticks out?

It's tough to say on such a small section, but I tend to agree with Alan, I think its a tiny double-strike

Upon further inspection with my microscope I do kind of see beads but again I'm not sure, I was just assuming it is PMD but if you look where I circled in red you can see the beads slightly.

Yeah, there they are. If not double struck it's an indent strike or partial brockage. It could have been struck against another blank coin, very hard to tell. If you can get large pics of the other side would help to say which. I thought I could see denticles too which would imply double struck.

That looks like collar clash on the reverse picture.
How can something like this happen?

@DBM I personally have no clue as I am new to collecting but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. Also curious if this is something I should be sending in to have looked at or not.

It's double struck because you can make out the correct detail on both sides

You could spend 100$ getting it graded with PCGS, but will still only be worth a couple bucks. If there was more of an error there it would be worth more, but then again you may never have come across it because it would have got plucked up earlier

@Alan I was only curious about sending it in to maybe determine whats exactly going on but I feel like you are right, everything I have read is pointing to the same answer you have came up with so I'm not going to bother having it looked at, I will probably just put it in a 2x2. Ive just never seen a double struck so small before. I think the only time I will consider sending a coin in is if I know it will pay for itself in the end although I have no idea what an error like this would be worth I assume it wouldent be around the $100 it would cost to be graded.
