Quote: I plan to start a thread for my type set, which is probably 60ish% done. Take your time and get the ones you want. Nothing worse than getting a coin that you later wish that you hadn't bought. I'm down to 3 coins to go, all 1796. But it looks like the only one I'll be able to get is the 1796 (or 1797) dime. The quarter and the half are WAY out of my league.

It's taken me about a year. At this point I'm missing a flowing hair and draped bust Half Dime, a draped bust dime,a Draped Bust quarter (am currently eyeing one), a flowing hair half, and a seated, trad, bust and flowing hair dollar, and an assortment of coppers. I have most of the dollars already locked down and reserved, just have to produce the funds. I'm doing the draped bust in VF or higher, so that may take a bit. Coppers are the most stressful and I'll probably put it to last. Your draped bust Half Cent is a steller example, nice even color, strong strike, and great eye appeal. Coppers frusturate my prefectionist side because I want all problem free, nice, well struck coins with good color and nice grades. Unfortunatly that's not possibly with some of them. I look forward to seeing your set develop!

That's appreciated Coinfrog. It's funny, A year ago the only thing I'd spend more than $50. on was bullion or the like. I guess you could say I've seen the light!

Question - what do you guys consider a full type set? Like, do you need a 1792 Half Disme, or a Gobrecht dollar, or a $4 Stella, that kind of thing?

No timh, those things really weren't meant to circulate, it's bit confusing but we don't count those, but do count Trade dollars.

Personally, I'm following the Dansco 7070 for the core of my set. So early 19th and 20th centuries, and when Done with that I'll feel a sense of accomplishment. But I'm also going to add 21st century coins, and some late 18th century pieces as I find them in good enough grades that I can afford. Basically, for me, it will likely continue to grow for the rest of my life. (Or until the US stops making significant changes to our major coinage.)
