It is a 1982 large date copper coated zinc cent. It's normal weight is 2.5 grams. Due to your cent being heavily circulated the 2.2 would be from normal wear.

Ok interesting. Looks to me like the copper plating has been stripped off the core, but that would only account for approximately 0.05 g of mass loss on what should have nominally been a cent weighing 2.5 g. As for the size, could you please post the diameter? As noted by @jimmyd, these are sometimes turned into Texas Cents, which will modestly increase the diameter and simultaneously decrease the thickness. Added: Here is a link to the excellent work by @pete2226 on calculating the weight of the copper plating on a cent: http://goccf.com/t/291160

Actually the copper plating is not stripped off the coin. When the coin is expanded, it falls off the coin all by itself. (the expansion of the planchet loosens the plating)

to the CCF! JimmyD said... Quote: Texas cent maybe? Will wait for photos to verify. NICE CALL! I'm almost sure you're correct. It's a "Texas Cent." It was flattened between two layers of leather. The copper layer was lost in the process and it look as if the coin has started to corrode. Weight is about right with the current condition.

2.4 to 2.6 grams was the original tolerance. 2.2 grams based on those images seems realistic. Also your scale might not be perfect either.

I did some research its the same tickness as a regular penny. I found some other pennys from 1982 that were pure zinc and look exactly like mine. Thanks for yalls help. I'm about to post a nickel and would like yalls opinion on it. Please check it out.

The outside edge is thicker than a normal penny but the center is smaller and it hasan extra edge on the outside lip

Wow. Would the edges still be thick? Yes they would. You seem to be having some doubt about what you are being told so here is a picture of a confirmed " Texas Cent", thick edges and all. Look familiar?
