Thanks to everyone for the great comments and information. I'm just realizing how much there is to learn. John1, I appreciate the ebay link, just can't believe my eyes. So, I guess I won't be putting this one into the parking meter ;) Spence, I spent some time looking at the pages from Cuds on Coins - thanks! I see the example similar to mine; it looks almost identical - perhaps the crack toward the nose may be more pronounced on the one I have (?), or maybe its just a diff in photo quality. I'd taken some photos with the flash that make it clearer, but other features are less clear (posting below). Going to have to spend more time with this on the weekend to better understand the differences between shattered and cracked dies, split versus bisecting, etc. So is the strangeness at the bottom somehow the result of the shattered die, or is this something else or maybe just normal wear from circulation?
