You mean around United? That's a lamination. I believe it was caused by an air pocket w/in the planchet. Stamping moved the metal around and the weak "shell" split from downward pressure pulling on the metal. Well that was what a fellow collector told me. Pretty cool how it went around the rim. I believe without that lamination this coin would have graded higher. But for the cost/condition I was happy.

My eventual goal would be a flying eagle/IHC set in AU/MS, but that is a super long term goal. I figured I can pick up a few a year!
