Congrats! Make sure to post in hand pics! Curious how this one actually looks, given the RB designation.

Yowza!

That's a beauty. I'd love to see your pics when it comes in. My first reaction (even from a TrueView) was PR-65. Nice one!

It's a good looking coin, congrats! This looks like at least a solid 65, wonder if the reverse spotting held it back.

This coin brought $2415 at heritage in 2008, I may resubmit it sometime in the future, or at least submit it to CAC

The other factor to consider is market differences. Matte proofs are cheaper now then in a while. The last time they were this cheap was, coincidently, 2008. Since then prices rose about 30% until October 2018 in which, for whatever reason, a sell off began and prices fell by 30%. However prices are still almost 3x higher than they were on 00. Incidentally, matte proofs were one of the types of coins that lost value during the pandemic. The pandemic has actually shown significantly boosted coin prices, the matte proofs shed 5%. I'm using the 1912 matte proof as a baseline because that was the coin in the OP. Just a bit of interesting data. Bottom line is they're been going down in the last 2 years so now is a good time to buy.

Some photos through the loupe for those curious about those spots...they appear to be die gouges...the surfaces on this coin are immaculate.

On the subject of Proof Lincoln Cents, an old friend of mine wrote a small booklet on them and was published I believe through the ANA. Len Albrecht, I've been looking for a copy of it for years at a reasonable price. I thought I had one somewhere that he gave me way back when I was only in high school, and hanging out at his shop. I can't seem to find it anywhere, so I may have been mistaken and never had a copy.

This is all I can find on it, and I'm not paying $125 for a copy either! That's nuts. I do have Kevin Flynn's nice book already.

I too have Kevin Flynn's book " Lincoln Cent Matte Proofs", it is quite good, and even has the correspondences between Brenner, and the mint director etc which I found interesting. Though, there is a die pair not in the book that they have identified since it was published.
