Yes, the flat, sharp, wide rims, the detail of the strike (Lincoln's hair, vest) and pebbled finish on the fields are all signs that this coin is a proof. It also seems that a lot of the early Lincoln Satin Finish Proof have this type and color of toning. It may be caused by the packaging used. (Sulfur in the paper wrappings) The first US coin motto was found on a 1792 half disme and read: "LIB (erty) PAR (ent) OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY" Report this Post to the Staff
