I would say cast as well. The 5 and second 9 in the date look off. Also, the way the bust meets the fields looks very suspect, has an softness about it. The wheat stalks also lack sharpness and depth.

The weight of the coin is 2.80grams/0.99oz

A few more images I could take with this miniscope, I'll try to get better images tomorrow if needed. Thank you for your input, I truly appreciate it!

Cool lesson. That 2nd 9 clearly has issues--not the least of which is the nearly closed upper 'loop'.

Here is a comparison of your coin to one that can be purchased from a counterfeit coin site today for $1.77 plus $0.74 shipping.

Reverse looks double struck rotated slightly. (Note left wheat lines and the extra M on UNUM, also other devices are smaller than normal on the 'UNUMM'. Bottom of the right wheat also looks doubled near the top the stems. Looks like the same event on the obverse, but not as strong of a rotation. Its a fake.

Great post by nss-52! The difference in the NINES is enough to raise doubt that the coin is real, but the image of a known counterfeit along side the image from alexgains coin closes the debate. Both coins were made using the same process from the same "dies." It's just not a real coin.

The only 59 mule that came close to being deemed "genuine" was the one that Mark Hoffman (convicted Utah murderer/bomber/counterfeiter/forger) supposedly passed off in the 1980's. I don't know if he was officially interviewed about his creation but there was plenty of stuff written about it several years ago when someone tried to auction it off

Edit —- Supposedly it sold in June of last year in a Goldberg Auction for 60K$ unslabbed with no returns!

I agree with the assessment that it's counterfeit. The nines not matching, the graininess of the surfaces and the markers aligning with the known counterfeit are overwhelming. I hope you only paid a cent for it.

Die markers confirm a counterfeit coin.

Unscrupulous roll sellers often throw in a known counterfeit to give uninformed buyers the impression that they got something good, hoping for a positive feedback comment.
