Gold is soft, Minor wear on the high points of the design, both sides. AU-55.

I'd say AU-55, and $3800. Very nice!

Ir appears that something is going on above the Eagle's head. Maybe some type of cleaning, I can't really can't identify.

Very nice Charlotte!
It has the typical soft Charlotte central device strike (noticeable on LIBERTY), but is unusually well preserved. There is only a trace of circulation on this one, and not nearly as much chatter as I would expect. The obverse is especially nice. Very few slab over AU-53, but this looks like one of the few. Add me to the AU-55 parade, and a bean on this wouldn't surprise me.
In this market, I have no idea on the price. The last 1847-C half eagle I handled was several years ago, and it was a well-loved VF. I know that AU and up are scarce enough that they trend closer to retail than Greysheet.

i think ignoring all the bangs, nicks and abrasions the details of the coin point to AU58 but I gotta net it down to AU55.trurview tends to enhance any marks

The answer is AU-55. Price paid at auction $3,508 including buyers fee.

Should expect to find more luster in an AU-55 than shown, doesn't show very well in this case, but I think that is due to the photography.

Well I wasn't too far off, about as close as I get with gold.
Nice example, congrats!

Grade aside, a beautiful coin and the price seems very fair.

Looks correctly graded. The price realized probably didn't make the seller happy. Good acquisition.
