Yes, it is raised. The rim right next to it looks totally normal

Perhaps a rolled over Rim Fin? I don't see a listing on the cuds-on-coins website for this location for the '44 cents.

I think it's a well placed hit that flared out the rim.

A hit that stops exactly short of the rim and is raised? Not likely.

Yeh, it's one of those things that always confuses me.
Cud vs. fin
I don't know what the diagnostics are to decide which it is.

Thinking that must be right.

I'm in the camp of Rim Fin, folded over. Cuds shouldn't have depressed areas (the copper has to raise up like a loaf of bread to fill the void in the die. This looks like it took the shape of the coin die or layered on after).

Rim Fin is a new concept for me. still learning. Thanks everyone. As I look at other examples, mmy coin seems to be a very small Rim Fin. Does anyone think it adds any value to the coin? mJust deciding whether I should keep it or throw it in the left over wheaties pile

My opinion is that a Rim Fin would need to be extreme in order to add any value to a coin. This one is interesting, but not extreme. By the way, Mike Diamond's site error-ref.com is also a great resource for learning more.

It could be a piece of debris on that area, that folded over on the field/rim/edge area?

I thought debris was a possibility in the beginning too, but I do not want to scratch at it to hard. As I move it around and look at it from other angles through my loupe it has the color and reflective qualities as the rest of the coin. I have examined it close and I really think the raise area is copper. Coop, any suggestions to further rule out debris?

Would like to hear Mike Diamond's opinion on this one. I'm also thinking a Rim Fin that's been folded over.
