It's not listed in my Cherypickers Guide either.

Thanks for the comments. MOS0239- that's a good call, and I think accurate. This is the closest I can get with my zoom without getting blurry.

Hmmmm, can't tell. Do those notches look more distinct to you in hand?

Yes, I can see them easier in hand. They seem consistent with other minor Kennedy DDOs. The lettering also looks thicker than usual.

It's a nice looking mint state coin. You could always submit it. Unless I'm overlooking it, I don't see many 70-D DDO's listed.

It maybe too minor to list. When you enlarge some hub doubling, there should be a spread. That enlarges the devices. Too minor sometimes don't get listed.

My opinion, for what its worth, is your half dollar would be the 70D MDO-001. In the CONECA Master Listings the description for the 70D MDO-001 was, Medium extra thickness on TY of LIBERTY, WE TRUST, and 70 of date, strength of doubling will vary depending upon hub and die state. Now that James Wiles doesn't maintain the Master Listings on Variety Vista any longer, it was turned lover to the CONECA web site control, and they have yet to add it to the site, it is not available to see yet. I have never seen a 70D DDO listed anywhere.

Your opinion looks to be worth a lot, atrox. Very specific and knowledgeable on the topic, and I appreciate it.. But I hope you're wrong! Haha. It's exciting to think of finding a completely new variety especially in such an uncommon date.

Looking at PCGS images, it seems most (if not all) 1970-D half dollars have this extra thickness on WE TRUST: https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin.../images/6713So I agree, MDO-001 makes sense. BTW I have the entire CONECA master listings saved (Last save I have is from March 30, 2020). If anyone needs any info from there shoot me a message.

Thanks Tanman, that's a big help. Question: Since there are notches more apparent on this one, is it safe to assume it's from an earlier die state?

It could be early in the life of the master die but not necessarily the working die.
