Quote: NGC ....." corrupt and inept " now that is rich ! I'm no conspiracy theorist lol. But how the heck else do all of his coins magically come back straight graded when you know dang well they'd come back AT if it was any of us. Quote:US TPG I would use for foreign coins . Fair enough in that regard, PCGS does suck with world. Quote: holdering copper and bronze that have this particular look and toning . I strongly disagree. Many, many of these coins would be obviously altered to anyone with intermediate experience. I personally find incredibly difficult to believe that they can identify even the best counterfeits and have decades of experience in many cases, but are unable to tell AT from NT. Especially considering that NGC gets way more toners due to their designation. I almost guarantee if you were to crack any of them and send them back raw to NGC they'd come back AT or altered surfaces.

Slider, the toning on the 1907 is not necessarily AT. I have at least one coin with this kind of toning that I KNOW FOR A FACT comes from an old collection that has had no additions since the 1960's. That said it's interesting to see this kind of toning can be replicated artificially. (Side note—I KNOW I have a pic of the coin in question, but I can't find it in my photo library. If anyone else has an iPad, have you noticed that photos disappear? This has happened to me several times now.) I can see the skepticism regarding the brighter colors, but is it always AT?You guys can tell me—is there a great market for AT'd old world coins? I picked this one up several years ago on VCoins. .

I watched that lecture about a week ago. It is very good, but quite long. Just watching the first half hour is already useful as it tells you the correct sequence of natural colors, which colors are natural, colors that flows over devices, and colors that break when encountering a device barrier. Quote:The first two photos were posted by a CCF member of a coin he sold to Mikemountains. The first photo is a raw 1902 coin that sold on ebay on 12/4/20. The second photo is the same 1902 coin sold on ebay 12/27/20 with a little color added. It is not possible for this coin to natural tone in a couple of weeks. Drawback of his coloring scheme is that the face hits on the AT coin are much more pronounced than on the original coin.

Buy the coin not the holder, and buy the book before the coin.

The more time we spend looking at genuine, unaltered coins, the easier it is to spot counterfeit and altered coins. Think about the cartwheel look of an original Morgan and the flat dull look of an overdipped Morgan. The bourse floor of any major show (if we ever have those again) is at least a full college semester of learning, if we take the time. We may not get to the point of knowing what was done to alter the appearance, but we can get to the point of knowing that the appearance was altered. That's enough to avoid getting burned.

This is a coin I sold to him a bit over a week ago. I bought it from a collection in the UK. I guess I'll keep an eye out and see how he re-lists it.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/154290019183

It's not the only one NGC has certified as PL so they must exist. :-)
