Excellent quarter-on-dime planchet example (photo immediately above, that is).

@Kloccwork sadly we never get to see because OP always mysteriously vanishes by the time the submission gets back and is never able to show us how wrong we all were...

Well certainly a 90% silver quarter weighing 4.25g makes no sense at all.

Bobby, this might be a quarter struck on dime stock. The planchet could have been punched out of dime thickness stock. It would weigh more than a dime planchet, but not as much as a regular quarter. But as far as being silver I don't know.

If you do the math, a quarter-sized planchet punched out of dime-thickness silver stock would weigh 4.58 g, closer, but not quite the same as the OP's coin. Plus, you would have to explain why they had silver dime stock in Denver in 1969.

Or it could be a Mint employee assisted error?
No used speculating until evident is presented, but a lot of things not adding up.

Late to the party. Joining the group (everyone) that are highly suspect. If it's is truly 90%, not plated, I'd say the odds are far greater of it being a cast than a mint error. But why someone would choose a 69 D to cast.... .
