Quote: I say reverse makes up for it - EH? Certainly not IMO. The reverse looks as baggy as the reverse, though the photos do a good job at hiding it. There are bagmarks, hairlines and scattered hits all along the reverse.

I have to agree with Jaobler. Some wear on high points, and lack of any luster that I can see from these photos. AU58.

Leaning toward AJU-58, but 62 would be tops for me.

No visible luster left on the cheek and neck and the hair above the ear and breast show signs of some wear. 53/55

for the year this coin is a little weak especially the eagle breast. lots of contact marks on the obverse. luster broken on obverse and some flat spots on the reverse. reverse looks MS63 obverse MS62. I have to net this one at MS62 especially with the jaw scratch and weaker than normal strike

I say AU55 or MS62. No way this is AU58...too many hits for that top AU-scale grade.

Decent looker for an 1899. It's a little bit baggy, but at least it survived becoming Pittman bullion and silver rush shrapnel.
There is some frost on the obverse, and decent luster. I see what others are noting about the broken luster on the cheek and hair. Even after playing with the pics, I still can't get a solid feel for whether this is a slider or UNC.
I'll have to give it a split grade, either AU-58 or MS-62. If UNC, the obverse hits are just a bit too evident to make MS-63 (especially the two rim hits and the cheek), but the reverse is at least MS-63. I still think it nets to MS-62, if UNC.
