Superb coin no FSB ; But I like and try to buy coins with NO problems . I don't know if the rim issues are the results of before striking or poor striking ,either way I would purchase this coin for my collection .

Thanks for all the replies so far! I've added a photo I have taken of the coin as well, the true views aren't my favorite. I'll also add that the coin is in a straight grade holder.

The grade from PCGS was.....MS62.

The coin was in an older PCGS slab MS63 and I thought it was under-graded and had it as most people have said, MS64. So I played the crack-out game and somehow it went down to MS62!

That seems a bit harsh.

The marks and luster on the coin are at MS64/65, but I could not get past the rim, so I was going to say MS62.

The rim problem hurt it a lot more than we could see in the pics. The crack-out game didn't pay off this time.

. And yet again shows the inconsistency of TPG's. Technically speaking, the rim issue happened/was caused pre strike or during strike, not post strike, this shouldn't affect the grade (except in eye appeal, if said grader/graders choose to do so).

1918-d had problematic strikes. IMO, yours exhibits a striking issue. Heck, the PCGS plate coin @MS67 has weakly formed rims not unlike this one. If the 18-d was known to be well struck, I could see this affecting the grade more drastically, but it's not.

Bottom line.. PCGS saw something we didn't or they decided to grade a bit harsh. It's all just an opinion. Play the crack out game again. You may pull another MS62 or you may pull the 64.you're at the mercy of someone else's opinion.

Nice coin nonetheless.

MS 62 is not merited, in my opinion. I would much much rather have this coin in my dansco than a lot of 64s I have seen over the year. If it were not for the rim, I think I might have gone for a 65. I really liked this coin!
