You said 1877, that's an 1887! BIG DIFFERENCE in price!!! The 1887 is worth $3.50 maybe less.

@Pineapple,

Just wanted to let you know the reason all of us were going nuts about an 1877 Indian Head cent for $3.50 is that even in low grade its a $400-$500 coin. The US Mint only made 852000 but based on the surviving number and the limited die traits, the believe is that the number is either not correct or very few of those coins actually made it to circulation. Hence why we were all in disbelief (some like me more than others).

The 1887 while old, is not a rare coin as over 45 million were minted. They are readily available in low grade for a low cost. So when you posted an 1887 we can close out this chapter, as $3.50 is a fair price for the 1887 in low grade.
