I'm confused as to why a counterfeiter would go through the trouble of putting a coin that obviously fake in a fake slab?

Yep. The holographic label says the slab was tampered with, and so the "coin" would be a slow boat knock-off.

If you have already bought it, the seller has defrauded you.

Many people assume that if it is in a TPG holder, then it is authentic and graded accurately. They spend too much time looking at the label than the coin itself. I am not sure how many people could get fooled by this coin, but I am guessing at least one person was.

Although the coin is a bad fake, but what caught my eye first was the incorrect font on the label.

The reverse in particular looks crudely designed.

As noted the coin is a fake and a fake slab. The barcode does not match the Cert number. The barcode comes up 0071886311. I agree with Frog that the reverse is crudely designed.

@Sel_69l really you think I bought this, if it did I would not consider myself a collector. More for education and to remind people that slabs aren't foolproof.

@Sap nah not to be rude but the fruitheads who put this together not trying to give them ideas but yeah (straight away red flag)

found this horrible item on what you would in the states term a selling website like craigslist, Gumtree and they don't care cause there is a lot of these posts not just the oh I found a thousand dollar PMD coin (termed as an error)... oh well hope you guys where entertained.

Scammer aren't targeting the American collector market with these fake slabs as you guys would spot these from a mile away :D. They target your market with fake slabbed koalas and Perth Mint kangaroos or fake Peace dollars especially intermixed with real junk silver just buyers beware, times are tough there only going to get harder.

these are more for the more uneducated Asian markets such as south east Asian where gold is a big deal, but the knowledge about these is very sparse

Ryurazu, thanks for posting this. It's important that collectors know as much as possible about counterfeits. Even though this is a particularly crude fake, it's useful to know it exists. Awareness of such bogus slabs might reduce the chance a collector will make a costly purchasing mistake.

Send it to PCGS with a request to re-slab it. I'd like to know their response.
