Very common, I'd say 10 to 20% of the cents struck in the 50s will have die chips somewhere on them. Check out ttp://cuds-on-coins.com/ut

Also on the other devices on the reverse there are die chips on them also. Sometimes they are this big:

Thanks. While I've seen LWCs w A chip, I guess I've not noticed many with more than one. Appreciate it.

When you look at the image I posted, you are thinking? ]red\How does the chips show up on the tops of the devices?[/red] Good question? Glad you asked. LOL The devices chips on like these are breaking ways below the devices. Thus they are below the devices depth. Thus when they break off there, they appear on the tops of the devices. Same for the die chips/breaks on the wheat grains and lines areas. They are pot holing below the design. Thus they appear on top of the design. The deeper the die chips out, the higher the chips/breaks/cuds will appear on the coins.
Retained Cud:

This die had a void below the deep design, thus the pot hole was deeper, now taller than the deeper design.

So when these are taller than the devices, the pot hole void is deeper than the depth of the devices.

CoopHome: Why are die breaks, chips/rim cud/cuds taller than all other devices?

@coop. You are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks so much for sharing! I was half hoping you'd ask why I didn't mention a DD on the coin! #Hopefull

I have heard the little die chips on the wheat stalks referred to as "Bugs"

Maybe in the wheat fields. But on the coins, they are copper filling the voids on a die. Thus they are raised.

@lawest. Well certainly not that one because I don't have that Bug at the B but wow that's a big one. I've checked and while that one is close, the lack of that B bug tells me not that one. Thanks

@lawest thank you so much!!! While hot the one you identified, I do believe mine to be LDB4-1955-003 4BL+ which is on the same link as yours only one down. I hadn't even noticed the loop under the BE of Liberty. Awesome thanks!!

@lawest. Or really darn close. My T has got more smudge than the identitied but otherwise lines up nicely. Same loop under BE and same "bug" in wheat. So I guess now I have to ask at what point is it a match OR is it a new variety?

What makes it a "BIE" is the die chip/crack in Liberty. I believe yours is a match to this one.

just a little farther into the dies life, causing the chip on the T to be larger...2x2 and label it as such...
