Yes, visit local coin shops and go to coin shows. Coin roll hunting can be effective--but quite slow in coughing up coins in the key and semi-key classes. Of course, coin shops are typically not giving key/semi-key/high grade older cents away, and neither are sellers at coin shows. I've had decent luck with ebay over the years, as well as the the sources just noted. It's important to have fun and learn when going about filling holes--and, patience is a virtue. |

In the past year, I've bought Dansco Albums for all of the types of coins. I noticed I was missing a lot of the newer dates, because I never would've thought to set those aside. So I drive to a local bank, grabbed some coins, and got to work. Coin roll hunting will be easy for the newer stuff, but it can be difficult to find earlier 20th century types in good condition.
You can buy wheat cents in bulk. Similar to coin roll hunting, except no zincolns. You can resell the extras to recoupe your money, and possibly make a profit to cover the cost of the coins you removed.

Spme dealers have tubs of wheats that you can sort through, but you would be unlikely to find any keys/ semi-keys there.
Roll hunting should easily get you everything from about 1950 to date.

You're best bet is a shop and/or a coin show. Ask your local shop if they sell bulk wheat cents. I used to get 5000 ct bags for $250 - found LOTS of nice coins in those bags and they're fun to go through. When done, you can return what you don't want back and most dealers will pay 2-3 cents per. A small price to pay in the end to cherry-pick an entire bag IMO. GOOD LUCK!

The coin show / coin store option is good. Other options are to buy partial sets on ebay and pull the coins you want out or find a seller with lots of listings that will combine shipping so you can gain efficiencies there. |

You can find collections in albums with mostly new coins for very little on ebay. Good luck. |
