Definitely not AU, I'll eat my socks if that was graded AU. I would put it at MS64.

It's a soft strike, from heavily clashed and polished dies. IMHO, the coin is UNC. The blotchy obverse toning suggests an eye appeal adjustment. I could see the net grade as MS-64. I don't have my guide handy today, but there are a few similarly heavily clashed 1891 dimes, with both obverse and reverse clashing. What jumped out to me is the repunched first "1" in the date. I don't think there are many varieties with both a repunched date and heavy clashing.

Nice example, and the die clashes are stunners.

MS63. My own 1891 in a similar grade has a similar very strong clash with the "E" clearly visible on the obverse.
This is a very nice coin.

it's looking like an F-110. That clash on the DIM(E) is unique to RVJ and the date parameters sure seem to match up to OB10

I would consider that to be very choice in the grade at 62. Nice pickup.

My guess would have been MS-61.

I strongly disagree with the grade.

The obverse has dings on Liberty's right arm and the rock and area just west of her hand. The rest of what we see on the obverse is the die clashing. Ignoring the toning, the contact marks are mainstream MS-64, and very nearly MS-65.

The reverse not only is clashed, but was struck from a pitted die. There is a minor surface scratch above ONE and two deeper, but small scratches between the "O" of ONE and the "DI" of DIME. There is very minor surface chatter above the bow and a light staple scratch on the rim at 12:00. This, too, is mainstream MS-64.

IMHO, ignoring toning, the obverse is MS-64+ and the reverse is MS-64. I would net it down to MS-64 because of the blotchy obverse toning. I cannot see any basis for a net grade below MS-63.

This could be a crossover request with an MS-63 floor or a trip to the bean factory. Since PCGS wouldn't attribute the F-110, a trip to VSS or another variety attribution service might also be in order.

I guessed MS64 to MS65 before scrolling down, I'm with fortcollins, no way that coin deserves a low MS grade. I've been back at my old job so much I am not getting much time here on CCF as I'd like. Missing too many grading problems, which I really enjoy doing.

This might be a case of "Well, the coin is near fully lustrous, nice surfaces, minimal hits - 64 type if UNC... BUTTTTTT it might have the faint wear visible on the obverse, so we'll call it 62 ¯\_(#12484;)_/¯".

Yes. Highly likely it has luster breaks and was graded AU62.
