Good act on your part...I would like to see if the coin is submitted for slabbing.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it. I can ask him but I do believe he is planning to get it verified by ANACS.

Doing the right thing will work good for you. He will keep it in mind each time you come back and if there is something special, he might offer it to you first.

If you can...ask the dealer to share a pic when it comes back from grading...either way.

I doubt this coin will ever be sent off for certification/grading.

I can definitely ask him next time I'm in there if he plans to send it off, and if he is, if I can take a picture of the result. I would think he would since the difference in how much professionally certified vs. uncertified examples sell for is wide enough that it makes financial sense to get it professionally certified. ANACS will cost <$15 so well worth the money.

My thoughts exactly.

Hey Everyone!
Here's the final result. The coin was slabbed and attributed by ANACS as a 1909 S VDB! Thank you all for the really helpful information and discussion. This was an incredibly fun journey.

Excellent and thanks for revisiting this post and letting us see it in the slab.

Good on you CRH!

If more people would put themselves on the other end of a situation, in the other person's shoes, this old world would be a better place. Yes, he gave it to you as an act of friendship and you gave it back as another act of friendship since he did not know what he had given you.

You have verified for him that he can trust you. What could possibly be worth more?
