That scoring all the way around the rim makes it look for all the world like a Magician's coin, but that might just be a trick of the lighting.

Believe it is a form of dye deterioration. 2008 was also notorious for this from memory.

Yes I have one of those 2008 your speaking of but this is a 2019 only 3 years since it was produced, the edge reminds me of overflow of metal raised up between letters none covering lettering thou.

If this had been done after minting process it would generally cover some lettering if not all.

If it was Die Deterioration wouldn't effect the lettering as well, double rim mostly on reverse and the echidna has only clashing to obverse side.

I do agree they can affect in different ways but that raised edge is machine made, but not done by bank rolling machines because some letters would be shaved and for it to be raised between lettering and not affect the letter's meaning that the metal would have to be squeezed or pushed by machine and Die Deterioration can not raise the metal without effecting lettering and for 2019 coin life span of 3 years, 10 years I would think so.so I'm thinking it being well short of life span that if you paid for coin in 2020 you only have it for one year that's ludicrous.oh well throw it in bin lol

The raised edge was caused only by machine or squeezing or pushing of metal for it to raise this edge.

I don't know what caused this but I do know that this is very common for 2019 IRB 5 cent coins. Here is another thread about them: http://goccf.com/t/420643
