wow, very odd here.
Need to know if the 'thing' on the obverse is raised or incuse.
The 3 lines on the reverse look incuse and I can see metal welling up at the edges - indicating some sort of damage.
Not sure what is going on the the other obverse thing that covers the date and part of the lower bust[ shr]
The obverse is intriguing though.

Note on all of the affected areas, there is a wave of where the metal was moved post strike. A sure sign of Post Strike Damage.

All of the marks are incuse. Here's a close-up of the area east of Abe's nose. There is almost a melted or heated look to the group of features both obverse and reverse. I agree with coop, scrape marks where metal was moved it is a PMD |

Coin hi another method of confirming PMD is right by the date. The coin is out of round. |

Beautiful toner!  Excellent images as always. Hmmm... Most likely PSD but .... -The obverse incuse linear area isn't caused by shears since there are no opposing cut marks directly opposite on the reverse. Something else maybe. -The reverse isn't out of round at all. -The continuation of bays 9,10, & 11 to the south is odd for a couple of reasons. (Is that an amoeba-shaped metal fold inside the continuation of bay 11?) The texture of the metal in the continuation of these bays looks consistent with the unaffected areas. And they seem to stop exactly at the base of the building/steps. -Areas below columns 7 & 8 are incuse but, oddly, the texture is consistent with other surface bumps. I would keep it for informational purposes if nothing else. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

It's hard to argue that the metal doesn't look "pushed" but I think it might not be here. Also, how does the metal get "pushed" but not go out of round? Perhaps the split plating is making things look pushed?   |

The more I look at this one the more I believe it is a struck-through (on the reverse anyway) with PSD. IMHO, the incuse areas at the base of the columns and bays appear original and not PSD. There are no raised areas visible adjacent to or opposite the incuse areas. I'm not sure how something could make those deep furrows without the displaced metal showing up somewhere. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

I see nothing but post-strike damage. The vertical furrows in the Memorial terminate abruptly at its base, which is an indicator that this happened after the strike.
Error coin writer and researcher.

Like Pete says how with that much damage across the nose, why would it not be pushed out on the reverse? The only thing I got is maybe it was placed on top of another cent off center rev to rev and then hit with a dull chisel. The continuing columns are the result of the columns from the other cent impressed into the reverse. And the damage on the date is another hit or 2 but not as hard. Or maybe not. That's how my mind works.  |
