Certainly a 'no frills' version, in OK condition, except for the handle..

I have no idea how to value these, but
$30 which includes shipping, is good, to my way of thinking

But does it still work?

(sorry, it had to be said)

In all seriousness, it's a great little piece of history.

Fascinating piece of history. You gonna fire it up and see if it holds fuel and still works?

Not a silly idea, at all. Some collectors do indeed light up these ancient lamps. But, in my case...no. For one thing, I just couldn't bring myself to do this to one of my antiquities. But also: I just can't figure out how to plug it in.

Food for thought...
A man stumbles across an old oil lamp in an antique store...
The lamp is very dusty, so he gives it a rub, and the room starts to shake, and a genii appears.

He announces, "I am the Great Genii of the lamp! Since you've freed me, I will grant you one wish."

The man replies, "Just one?"

The genii relies, "Blame Reganomics, now time is short, what is your wish?"

After giving a little bit of thought, the man says, "I want you to make me a bridge. I want it to go from Los Angeles to Honolulu so I don't have to spend so much money to vacation there."

The genii looks at him like he's the stupidest man he's ever met (and he's met more than a few) and says, "Buddy, seriously? Are you nuts?! You know how much concrete and rebar I'd have to wrangle. That would be a massive project, we'd need environmental impact studies, and permits... not to mention all the union labor I'd have to contract out, jeez."

A little crestfallen the man says, "Well, can you help me understand women then?"

The genii replies, "Did you want two or four lanes in that bridge?"

Geez, Paul. You're killin' me. Oh, my sides hurt! Whew. *deep breath* Splendid acquisition, Bob. What a great price for such a meaningful piece of distant history. As for lighting it up: I fear I would not be able to resist the temptation of lighting it once again. Connecting my flame to the last time it held a flicker in ancient days. What did it help illuminate at that time? Marvelous!
