How can you honestly say you like the price point?
Still to this day the premiums are too high.
You lost me at investment.
You are in our hobby for the wrong reasons, and when you get burned you will be bitter.
You realize when you know how to think, it empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.

Great Topic, IMO, People collect for ALL reasons. Collecting the American Silver Eagle Series, All Proofs, All Uncirculated , All Reverse Proofs, All Enhanced Reverse Proofs, and Other Mint Marked Issues, is a Feat, I do Not collect Bullion Coins for this series, some Only collect the Bullion. Graded coins Only, All Graded First Strikes, FDOI, or All Raw from the U S M INT'S SITE. Any ways You choose, The Keys 1995-W, 2019 Enhanced Proof, 2008 With the Reverse of 2007, BIG investments. When the series is completed, and the Yearly Available Members are added to the series, AMAZING Best wishes in where ever your collecting takes you.......

Coinweek actually had a good article on collecting ASE's that might give you some ideas and include some costs to consider if starting from scratch rather than say ordering one proof and uncirculated from each year from the mint directly or going to shows and cherrypicking top examples to grade yourself as the 'fun' https://coinweek.com/bullion-report...-strategies/ Something like the late stewart blay did including also copper us and canadian cents. http://goccf.com/t/438397It is mostly those who are buying for the silver metal content rather than collecting say proofs or top grades or the interesting variations or labels who are the ones that suggest to avoid them right now as other options are out there with lower premiums for the silver content. Bullion premiums are quite sensitive to physical supply and demand and the 2023 American Silver Eagles sold by the US Mint were already sold out until 2024 by mid-September 2022 as one reason for a high premium. In other words suggested they should currently be avoided for bullion stacking and should move to a different government minted coin, and also for collectibility for the bullion in more than a small quantity as there are likely much better choices that would likely do better for possible investment purposes. (Rare coins, error coins, high demand, low supply coins etc)

Quote: I'm thinking my personality and financial situation may be more geared toward collecting sets and rare coins as opposed to stacking generic rounds for the sake of preserving wealth. It seems more interesting. As implied by the responses above, this is a good mindset for collecting ASEs. The current premiums are way too high for bullion to consider stacking, and the proofs/uncircs always carry a hefty premium. 10 years ago you could get MS bullion ASEs for $3-4 over spot but we haven't seen premiums that low for years. The upside to stacking ASEs is they are one of the most recognized and trusted silver coins in the world thus they are very liquid (i.e., in an pinch you could move them quickly). Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

I use and see the term "investment" quite a bit. Perhaps using the term "Speculative Investment" would be more appropriate and make more sense. You win some and you lose some, but, the enjoyment of collecting will last a lifetime! It certainly has for me.

datadragon thank you for posting the coin week article. It was an inciteful article. I think I am going to stick with collecting ASE proofs.

Quote: are not investments. they are speculation. Well I invested in these silver coins speculating that they will rise in value as time moves on (I'm talking years of course). I, for now, collect for the joy of it, but I cannot take it with me forever, so at some point, during my retirement I'll have to sell them off (hopefully at a profits from original cost) to keep me living a comfortable lifestyle.

@Carl: Quote:I think I am going to stick with collecting ASE proofs. That is that I initially thought too, but now that I have all the proofs (one of each with 1 exception [the V75 privy coin], I started buying one each of the Bullion, that too was not enough, now I'm also buying all the Burnished (uncirculated - with a mint mark) ones too. What am I to do when I have all of them?

@ Dearborn, when you have them all you wait until the next year comes and get what the mint has to offer. What will their next gimmick be? A Denver minted ASE?

It never hurts to ask the Denver Mint but, I can only imagine that this idea has already been bantered around a time or two. Hmmmm Here...I'll make it easy for you: (303) 572-9500

I agree with BH1964, 10 oz silver bars are what I stack. I also collect ASE for my Dansco album each year. I keep the ASE proofs in OGP.
