Welcome to the mad world of vickie large cents I was bitten over 10 years ago and still loving them and okie was there to help me along and still is, then I read about the 59's (double bitten). https://www.vickycents.com/index.htmlSome heavy reading Buy all pre 1900,s in the best condition you can afford. Study them all for varieties. Just to let you know that you have opened up the biggest can of worms ever (good luck).
Cheers Don

Quote: Welcome to the mad world of Vickie large cents I totally agree with fourmack. I've been collecting them seriously for about 9 years now and have enjoyed it immensely. They are beautiful coins. I started like you, putting together a date set, but it wasn't long until I became fascinated by the many varieties. I think you picked a great series to collect and look forward to seeing your collection grow here on the forum.

Jess1234; For a reference, I paid either $75.17 or $87.03 in US dollars for the coins you listed. (I paid $13.75 for the 1900 'plain' and $1.89 for the 1900-H variety). I did buy mine around 10 - 15 years ago, and I don't really know if pricing has fluctuated since then. Also, all my coins are in mid-range conditions.
At first, I was only interested in the 'small' cents for my collection, but I acquired a few large cents and got bit. It is a very enjoyable set and one that is easy to complete without having to spend a lot of money for.

Very interesting Atticguy! So, I'm guessing that prices haven't fluctuated that much in the past 10/15 years. But you're right, they're absolutely stunning pieces! Love them! Thanks for your input!

Isn't it fun Jess when you find a coin that attracts you instantly? I don't collect the Canadian large cents but, I just started to collect the US Large Cents. They just jumped out at me! Keep up the good work! I'm impressed! You've got the "bug"!

Jess1234, welcome to the CDN large cent group. You've picked a nice area to explore. I was looking for a blog post I wrote a number of years ago regarding something else and I came across this one. Enjoy the read. http://victorialargecents.blogspot....comment-form

@Jesse1234
Highly recommend obtaining a copy of the 2011 Charlton v1. The variety section is the bomb. Okie helped write it.
To answer one of your questions: Would you buy Large CAD cents. YES!!!!! Bought a small hoard of 280 of them 2 weeks ago in Manchester, NH. Haven't finished going thru them yet but have already found an 1881 spur N, 1887 rp 7, and an 1888 bead 8.
Enjoy the hunt.

Nice start! I personally love the Canadian coinage, large cents included... I have the complete collection which was hard for me to complete, but I am an aggressive buyer if I have a goal in mind like completing a set like this. Got lucky on a few of them like 40 dollars on the 1858 in nice shape, and only a dollar on a high grade 1907-H cent and not too much spent on a 1894 and 1900 (no H)... If you look hard enough, they will be found...

Awesome Mrwhatisit!!! Looking forward to completing my collection as well! Perhaps I'll get lucky too! Personally, I think these hidden gems will become more and more appreciated as people discover them. They're kind of low profile, for now anyway! I'm convinced they'll gain well deserved popularity!

Buy the best grades you can afford. Learn how to grade yourself and spot under-graded coins in slabs.
An old numismatist buddy (long since passed) who was influential in my own younger collecting life once said "Losers value quantity. Winners value quality". There's brilliance in that blunt statement which applies to far more things than just collecting coins.
Stick to the absolute best quality you can afford. It never gets old.
