They should have given a basic general reason why it failed to slab, without giving any of their detection secrets away.
I find that somewhat disappointing.

Some of us are offering some detailed reasons why, and that is good,
but why can't NGC offer a basic general reason?

The raised bumps in the obverse fields do not look good. The rim photo shows the coin as being too thick but that might be just the angle. Getting the weight correct means some are too thick. There are questionable details on the devices as well.

I thought that the markers at the front and back of liberty were a little tougher to see in your images, but a close look under magnification showed that they are there and in the correct location. To me it looks like the counterfeit referenced by NGC but that and $7 will get you a cup of coffee these days, maybe.

Slider23, I am still reviewing and comparing to a genuine example.

There are surface lumps on this one I do not like; also took some edge images.

I will say it has some of the nicest toning I have seen on a fake.

Some better pics/additional definite examples of the NGC article fake would be helpful to assess what sort of artificial handling, die touch-up, etc. is going on here. Burfle (or others), have you seen/found any others?

Regardless, it should be noted that this is a fairly deceptive apparent fake and relying on matching markers to a known fake is essentially taking the easy way out when trying to authenticate. And on the flip side, see how a little bit of die touch-up/contact marks to mask/change flaws can sow seeds of doubt when comparing?

All part of why there's always been a debate about just how specifically observed "tells" should be discussed publicly...
