Quote: dont see an over date As I understand it @idk, the overdate itself isn't always visible, but this variety can be successfully identified via certain other markers, such as an interrupted wing tip.

What about the unwritten rule, find the error/variety first then match markers? John1

Nice pickup, if it's indeed the real deal.

I can't quite wrap my head around it, but congrats. I guess I'm in the John1 camp on this one.

One of dozens of obscure varieties in the IHC series that don't fetch much of a premium in well-circulated grades.

This is actually considered to be the strong overdate variant. The top right part of the 7 sticks out above the 8. This is not an obscure variety and it commands a significant premium. I believe this is the top variety in the flying eagle series. I don't have my snow book with me, but I'm certain he gives this 5 stars out of 5 for collectibility and premium.

Just saying that I don't think you'll get much of a premium if you try to sell it in this grade.

Thanks to all for the discussion on this coin. I learn what other collectors think and value. This particular variety is a 5 star coin per Rick Snow. According to Snow the "strong" version is the only one to collect. The so-called "weak" version has no premium above the normal 1858 mintage coin. I have been looking for this variety of coin for many years. When I cherry-pick one I am always excited. I potentially have found another one and it is currently in shipment. If it turns out to be the overdate, I will post it.
