Why do you think this could be an SMS?

You won't see many in better shape than this one.

The roughness around Monticello is planchet scratching which is unusual on SMS coins because the strikes are strong and obliterate them.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Business strike. I have a good example I believe of what an SMS coin out in the wild probably looks like.

So, I thought it was a 65 but it's not. But I found this 1966 in a bank roll awhile back, which is another SMS year.

I am fairly certain this was originally an SMS coin, and probably pulled out of a set. Notice how much more mirrored it is, similar to a proof?

One of the giveaways for the SMS is super flat, almost prooflike fields with very few Die Deterioration marks. Another is well defined steps, although that isn't a guarantee.

Hey Humanist128, Can you please send me that SMS Coin reference in a high resolution? For some reason your SMS looks super easy to distinguish the difference compared to the images I saved from PCGS. That darn true view be constantly tricking my eyes.. Cheers either way!
