The 9/11 proposal is a very worthwhile commemorative program for 2026! I hope to see it along with a 250th program. I truly hope Congress sticks with the 2 per year limit.

In Commems opening He stated, Quote: " A bill calling for a commemorative coin program to honor the 25th Anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001 " Something about the quoted sentence used is not sitting , a Commemorative coin Program honoring a Tragic Event Anniversary.... Our Commemorative coin program Has honored Great individuals and Great Events in America's Hard earned times. People, Buildings, Trails, Military's finest, Sport legends accomplishments, Founding people, Civil war, etc. Since what date did Our Commemorative coins honor horrific Tragic Events, I Know it was Not during the Classic era, Modern commemoratives , The 1995 Civil war Battlefield Preservation coins came close, No? Please do not Mis-Understand I just do not see how the Commemorative coin program Changed their ways, ....

Quote: Such a coin is certainly possible, but I truly hope not! I'd prefer to leave such commemorations to Daniel Carr and his "Fantasy Overstrikes" series. I have to agree.

Quote: Since what date did Our Commemorative coins honor horrific Tragic Events It seems likely that once details of the coin bill are available, it will be clear that the coins will honor those who perished in the tragic attacks, along with those who responded to offer aid/assistance to those involved. It's highly unlikely that the coins will celebrate the attacks!

While I appreciate the Topic,
I do not see the Tragedy lending itself to a Commemorative, JMO.

How about a commemorative coin honoring the Marilyn Monroe centennial in 2026? Marilyn Monroe, the greatest American movie actress, was born on June 1, 1926 which means that 2026 will be the centennial of her birth. We should ask the Treasury Department to mint a commemorative coin. Such a coin would be a "best seller" as opposed to the commemoratives honoring obscure persons or events. Marilyn sings a numismatic song "One Silver Dollar" in the 1954 film "River of No Return": Marilyn sings "One Silver Dollar" (Written by Ken Darby and Lionel Newman) One silver dollar Bright silver dollar Changing hands, changing hands Love is a shining dollar Bright as a church bell's chime Gambled and spent and wasted

Quote: How about a commemorative coin honoring the Marilyn Monroe centennial in 2026? I hope not! IMO, while there's no denying that she was attractive, she was/is not a figure of historical national importance worthy of a legal tender coin. I'm sure there will be multiple privately-struck pieces to mark the anniversary - and maybe even a coin or two from a South Pacific nation!

I agree with that reasoning.

Such a commemorative program for the silver anniversary of 9/11 would be far more worthy than most that are proposed and many that were enacted. For anyone old enough to remember, that day will never be obscure as an event or for the thousands of people who died and many more who lost someone who died that horrible day. We can not forget.
