Spence;

Honestly - no, I'm not sure!
Here's another pic - shows the object embedded into the O on a better angle.
But what about the rest of the "imperfections" through that area (part of my reasoning for struck thru)
Also, what do you think about the eye?
Thanks!

E&V
Some gunk there - which is why I already gave it a bath - wanted to see if the object in question would wash off

Very strange - never saw anything like it before. Thought for sure it was just something stuck to the coins surface.

Is a struck thru something which can be sent off to get attributed?
If so, I'll put this to the side and send it!

With something like that I think your best bet for it to be recognized would be with ANACS.

OK, thanks!

Not a great pic, but what do you think about the eye?

Sorry...but I think it's all PMD ("eye" might be a stain/toning) also you know acetone wont remove all things, sometimes you have to go further up the ladder (xylene). How long did you let it soak?

Greasy Fingers

Xylene - thank you
Soaked it for about 20 hours
Couldn't really tell on the eye - didn't think it looked quite right for a DDO, not as well defined as I'm starting to look for. But, figured I'd ask everyone.
Thanks!

Could it be part of a rim burr? have you looked to see if any part of the rim is damaged or missing?

and the eye appears normal to me..

There is definitely a lot of staining on this coin.
The "item" doesn't appear struck through to me but just stuck to the surface. I'm not seeing any incuse area under "it".
Is the part that is lifted over the W of WE?

Dearborn

Don't see any damage to rim which would lead me to believe it was a Rim Fin.
Plus, I was able to move the part of the object not embedded with a piece of paper, so unless a thin strand of wire, don't even know if it is metal.
Since there is other "damage" to that part of the coin, could it have been sturck through a fabric ribbon, and that's all which is left?
Just spit-balling.
May take Marve's suggestion and send it off to ANACS to see what they say.

Petespockets,
Yes, the free section is from the post of D towards WE.
I posted another Pic in a reply to Spence, which appears to show the item partially embedded.
