I wonder where the coin goes once NGC (or other TPGers) determines it's a fake? Do they forward it along with the submitters name to the Secret Service?
Kind of in line with the reasoning IMO the US doesn't mint a 2 dollar coin, all the troubles Canada has with fakes in commerce.

Thanks for the heads up. It didn't take them long.

Great discussion on an important current topic.

I wonder how many novice collectors will be fooled into purchasing one of these fakes? Wish they can all come here to gain some knowledge.

Makes you wonder how many are being sold vs how many are just being used for circulation.

...so, are the proper authorities going to scour ebay to track down the counterfeit sellers?

I totally agree with nickelsearcher. I don't know what can be done, but there needs to be more monitoring by ebay, Mercari and especially Etsy. AI isn't helping the situation either.

Generally, the listing has a picture of a genuine coin, but that is not what the buyer receives.

OK that makes sense, after your first post I went to ebay and searched 3 pages of the coins for sale and didn't spot a single fake.

In the hype & rush to aquire one, folks really need to do their due diligence, especially if you aren't familiar with the seller.
Most buyers won't know its fake until after any buyers protection time limit expires.
