1853 Seated Liberty Quarter With No Arrows

The perceived value of this variety definitely makes it worth having it authenticated by PCGS or NGC. That said, I'd advise taking the coin to a major show. Therein, you could could engage some knowing eyes on the coin solicit opinions as to its being genuine. This simple step could save you time and money relative to the authentication process. Indeed, should the coin then be informally adjudged genuine, there may be a dealer at that show who could expedite submission to one of the two major TPG's.

Lastly, my personal preference for a dealer to assess this coin is Larry Briggs. He literally "wrote the book" on Liberty Seated coins. He sets up shop at many major shows.

The 1853 no arrows/rays has a recut date, and yours appears to be authentic. Most of these were melted down.
This coin is also often faked by tooling an 1858, so getting it slabbed as authentic will help you if you decide to sell.
A TPG would grade this G4, details.

Comparing Slider images, beside the questionable 3, the top of the genuine 18 "5" 3 seems to be slanting further to the right. I agree this needs to be authenticated.

I agree that this appears to be a tooled 1858.

In addition to what others have noted, the reverse die on your coin appears to match Reverse Die "C" from 1858. That die was matched with 1858 Obverse Die 2, with a date slightly sloping downward from left to right. Your coin's reverse die has a die crack from the rim to the lower serif of the "C" in AMERICA and very lightly continuing to the eagle's left wing (our visual right). That appears to match 1858 reverse die "C." I emphasize "appears" because of the wear on your coin.

That obviously isn't the news any of us ever want to hear. It looks to be correct, though.

Sell it as is on ebay and it will go to PCGS for authentication assuming it sells for more than $500. I think bidders will be more willing to pay higher prices knowing it's going to get authenticated, and if not then you'll know it was altered and the buyer will get their money back.
