Why, they ask 30% of the sale price?
Isn't that more than major auction houses?

Another option would be to do it yourself and keep all the profit. Start with low dollar items people won't be afraid to bid on (assuming you have 0 feedback), or buy a few things off ebay to get some feedback. ebay is pretty user friendly. |

If you use a major auction house, don't plan on seeing a check for at least 6 weeks after the auction. Since they are a bigger company they take longer to pay.
Modern coins are everywhere for sale. I'm not sure you would get more money from a major auction house. They typically deal more in older high-end coins. Unless all of your coins are MS or Prf 70.

By the time you pay ebay listing fees plus final value fees (12% if you have a store to list for $.03 each +$15 per month for basic store), then pay 3% paypal fees to ebay. and add all the work and shipping and it begins to look like a great deal if all you have to do is sit back and rake in 70% or the proceeds. and don't forget you would be supporting this wonderful forum.  |

I agree...use the forum founders. I checked with a local auction house, and their fee was 30% with a limited audience compared to ebay. On top of that, they required you to write the description. They take the pictures and list the items, but their pictures are obverse only usually and the quality is average at best. I think 30% using Bobby and Susan's services is very fair. You'll get much better service from them, paid more quickly, and probably realize more for your auctions due to their reputation. I have read nothing but good feedback on them from people who have used their service. Good luck! |

I sold a bunch of coins through Bobby & Susan when I first joined. I carefully checked the going rate for people that take consignments on ebay. The fee's for that service are all in the 30% ballpark. I was extremely happy working with Susan. As an added bonus I felt like I was giving something back the the forum. Major auction houses seem to charge less than 30%, but they don't generally sell modern and/or common date coins. Unless you have something rare or special your best bet is ebay. |

They charge the buyers a 15% buyers premium, which ultimately comes out of the seller's pocket. And, if I recall correctly, they require a $5K minimum consignment. |

I am talking about high end modern coins, though.
Which one of these three is the best for those types of coins: Heritage, David Lawrence, or Teletrade?

Define "high end modern coins". I have visited with Heritage, but have not sold through them. Have bought from both Teletrade and Heritage. Heritage is a real auction, where Teletrade is not (in my opinion). At Teletrade, the sellers are allowed to bid on their own items...so because of that I don't consider it a great place to buy. The 15% ($8-$9 minimum) buyers fee is quite significant at Heritage and Teletrade. 30% fee to reach the huge ebay audience does not seem unreasonable to me, if you are not able to sell the coins yourself. |

A 1999 5-coin set in NGC Prf70 Ultra Cameo sold at Heritage in April for $184
A single '99 Delaware in NGC Prf70 UC sold last year for $161
A PCGS PRf70 Deep Cameo sold 2 years ago for $1,322.50
Now if you have 1999 silver quarters in Prf70 then I would send them to Heritage.
