They are nice coins with a little numismatic value but at the end of the day you have a bullion coin. If I bought one I would not go over $850. When the newness wears off they will probably come down a little, unless gold takes off.

sandpaper,
Whizzed is when a coin has been subjected to a harsh cleaning with a wire brush or some other tool to give it a lustrous surface. It gives the coin an imitation of having actual luster.

Thanks I should have known that.I have seen a few of them

A bodybag is when you send a coin to be graded by a TPG, and they send it back to you ungraded because of cleaning, altered surfaces, etc. ANACS will grade these coins and just state on the label that it was cleaned or something like that.

I bought several bullion coins from the site linked below. They were $640 - $650 each, in the wrapper from the mint. I can't see paying $850 which is so much more (like 30% more!!), but if it's graded then maybe it will be more valuable years from now. But right now I look at these for bullion rather than a colllectable, but I may change my mind and send them out to be graded in the future. Just not now. Here is the site if you want cheap bullion gold eagles. I haven't found a cheaper one yet:

Wow, I just checked there and you can get a gold buffalo for $633 plus $25 shipping and insurance. This price is $20 less than two or three days ago.

I just checked and they are $611 a piece today. Prices have really dropped recently. That's about a 5% drop in the last two weeks.

It seems like it's not worth buying one PR70 gold buffalo when you could buy 4 bullion coins today for the same price. I think some of these ebay people are crazy! And what's worse is that some poor person will pay that. But, maybe I'm wrong and this one coin will be worth a lot more in the future (but I doubt it).

kkkSeems to be alittle mixing of apples and oranges in this very interesting thread...just to clear up some possible misperception, the Buffs from the usmint are proof, with a somewhat limited number (but so many have been sold they are NOT scarce, and most likely wdill never command much of a premium in price).

The ones mentioned bought from dealers so cheaply are the uncirculated bullion coins, which will always be pegged to the price of gold and so many are made they will never command a numismatic price premium. Tkhey are just a pretty ounce of gold.

Hope this clarifies somewhat!

I'm thinking that if you want to invest in gold, and you buy ASE's or Maple Leafs, etc., the Gold Buffalo is another way to go, and slightly less than the ASE (buy about $1 or 2). And it is a very nice coin too. The price of gold keeps dropping which makes the bullion coins more attractive as well. I think gold prices will start to go back up, so this might turn out to be a good longer term investment.

I watched the Coin Vault last night and they are still selling MS 70 First Strike Buffs for about $1,300 each. Quite a mark up!! :)
