Selling to collectors would require obverse and reverse photos of each coin. A dealer paying a decent price would pay 90 cents for each dime. ebay completed listings tells the story on what you can expect if you photograph every Merc dime and post it on ebay. I say just sell to a dealer. http://completed.shop.ebay.com/Merc...l1513&_pgn=6

I say if you dont need the money right away try to sell them privately. You should be able to get spot for dimes, but you will have to sell them in smaller lots. Thats what I would do if I had them. If I needed cash fast, hit up ebay, but do it in several lots to leave it open to more buyers.

My local dealer is currently paying about 13X face for 90% silver coin. I'd be happy to pay just $0.90 each for mercuries, then flip 'em for $1.30

I sold assorted mercs and rosies to a dealer at a show at melt value, $1.20 each. That was in May when silver just touched 18

My local dealer in St Louis was paying 14x face as of last Saturday. If your dealer is only buying at 9x, you might want to find a new dealer.

If a dealer is paying 14X face for Mercs, how much is the dealer charging for a roll of Mercs?

The buy/sell spread was 1-1.5x face

Quote: The buy/sell spread was 1-1.5x face That would mean a roll of 50 Merc Dimes, for which the dealer paid a total of $70, would sell for $105. That seems kind of high. Based on today's spot price of $21.48, I can buy a roll of Mercury dimes online from a coin shop in Marysville for $77.69. Are you sure that your St. Louis dealer pays $1.40 for each Mercury dime and then sells rolls for $105?

Your math is off, selling a roll would net $70 while buying one would cost $75-77.50, buying at 14x and selling at 15-15.5x.

Even at that rate, the dealer is spending $140 on 100 Dimes and selling them at $150-$155. That seems like a low Return On Investment. But I guess the dealer can handle it. How much does your St. Louis dealer pay for common date Morgans and Peace dollars?
