just to add to my short comment from last night, the weak 7/8 TF seems to run along side the 7TF in price where as the strong 7/8 TF seems to be close to double the price. I am going from three different sources to come to this conclusion, I first checked PCGS price guide, then I checked ebay then Heritage and they all seem to say the same thing, people will pay more for the 7/8 Strong then they will the 7/8 weak. One reason may also be that most of the 7/8 Weak are considered very common except for the VAM-44 (which is the KING OF MORGAN VAM's)

Thanks Bryan,
I did more checking last night and found the same. I had never seen the "weak" "strong" designations before. So that was a new one to me. When it comes to 1878's I have a lot to learn.

1878's are an entire subspecies of Morgan unto themselves. There are so many variants that there are over 200 VAM's in that year from the Philadelphia Mint alone. I have consciously and deliberately stayed the heck away from 1878's, because to start collecting them is to go completely over the edge.

Ask Bryan.

So, is the VAM44 the tripled blossoms?

Yes, it is better than the plain old 1878

Sorry Becky,I should have been more specific, I was wondering about the "Weak" designation in particular.

Well, since PCGS Doesn't designate VAM's,it could be lurking out there somewhere.

PCGS does designate a handfull of VAM's now. here is the PCGS Variety Attribution page that shows all the VAM's they now attribute
http://www.pcgs.com/9[1].20.05%20Variety%20List.pdf hmm. cant get the hyperlink to work so you will need to copy and paste the address because the [1] is messing up the code on the forum. they attribute over 100 1878 VAM's alone so you know its driving me crazy to get ahold of each and every one of them before everyone else does

where the heck did you see thaten at? I dont know if the "California" collection has been sold or if they just upgraded some of the coins or what but there is quite a few of that collection on ebay right now. it is one of the all time greatest sets and would be interesting to know if it has been broken up or if whats on the market right now is just from upgrades
