aguynamedjoebob:

You can also check https://www. (124) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed .com for information on metal content of all U.S. coins and what they are worth. In addition to the pre 1965 dimes, quarters and halves (90% silver), Kennedy halves 1965 through 70 are 40% silver. And 1942 through 1945 nickels are 35%silver.

But check out the 1982 and earlier cents - they're now worth over 3 times face value in copper!

The " Wheat cent" started in 1909, and the last one was minted in 1958.
There are some VERY valuable Wheat Cents ! I suspect this folder has a few empty holes......like the 1909 S V.D.B......even in bad condition, this one is VERY valuable and starts around $700.00 to $800.00, then goes up from there !

The 1909 S
The 1914 D
The 1931 S
All of these are worth a minimum of $100.00 each even in BAD condition....and they're worth much more money depending on the condition of the coin.

And there's a nice handful of Wheats that are worth $20.00 to $60.00 in "bad" condition as well.....up from there as the condition is better.

It's all about "condition", "color", and "eye appeal"....but some Wheats have A LOT of value NO MATTER WHAT, as you can see !
But a lot of collectors have, as part of their collection, folders that were put together from "circulation". And the condition of most of the coins are just "average circulated". (meaning : no Proofs, varieties, etc, and just mostly found from the days pocket change, or roll searching from the bank). There is nothing wrong with this AT ALL !
In fact it's quite fun to put together these kinds of Sets with Cents, Dimes, Nickels, Quarters, Halves, Native Dollars, Presidential dollars.
Still, you want to always try to "upgrade" your coins to the nearest proximity to "Brilliant Uncirculated" (BU) condition that you can.

"Memorial Lincoln Cents" are 1959 to 2009.
And nowadays, since 2010, we have the "Shield Cent".

I suggest that you go to a "Coin Shop" in your area, or a book store, to look at their coin folders, coin albums, and other stuff in the "coin section". Ask where it is when you go in there....most of em' have em'.
Then you can start filling America the Beautiful Qtr. folders, Presidential dollar folders, etc. etc. etc..
And I'm thinking that this "folder" you're going to get at that pawn shop, is probably just "one of three" folders to complete the Wheat cent collection. So, you'll need the other two folders to be "complete".

To complete these kinds of folders from "circulation"......just go to your bank and ask for $50.00 in Qtrs. (or whatever amount), then bring them home and search through them. You'll find BU State Qtrs, the new America the Beautiful Qtrs....you can look for the Denver Mint ones and the Philly Mint ones.....you might even find the occasional "pre-'64" Silver Qtr......all kinds of things. And this is the way you can do it for ALL of the denominations ! Just go to the bank and buy some rolls of whatever you want !

Congrats and happy hunting. Work is a great place to find stuff. I've picked countless silver halves even a 1880 O Morgan dollar!

I don't know about VDB... But The whole thing was full from 1909 up through the 50s without a single missing one... they're not shiny and new, but that's not what I'm looking for anyway.. I'm collecting for the hunt. it was a big green folder book.

Assuming that they filled the holes properly and didn't just stick random wheats into all the holes, $20 would be highway robbery.

Go snag that! I am currently trying to fill a folder just from circulation... obviously there are some holes, but I found a 1909 VDB in circulation! (Not the San Fran mint but still a cool find!)

If you're not mistaken and that folder is in fact full, it's worth FAR more than $20. Once you've got it you should let us know what you've got and if possible, PICTURES!!

Well my eyes were bigger than reality... But I bought the book today and there are a ton of coins in it. quite a few holes but a great start and I'm really excited about it. no 1909 S VDB, but got a 1909 plain? lol. I was looking at the mint numbers and a few of my pennies look to be at least kind of rare. I need to get a new book because this one is really old. It ends at 1965. I'll take a few pictures of it, and post them so you guys can tell me what you think :)

You have to link the image, not the page the image is on.

I was able to correct the first one, but it appears that you removed the other ones?
