Are the WAM varieties only found on P mint coins or D as well?

Congrats! I found one a couple weeks ago (my first, also a 1998) and I need to get some verdigris off of it -- yours is in much better shape than mine. That's a nice feeling to come across one of those.

I'm new at this so I hope I'm doing this right. I just wanted to ask a couple of questions regarding the 1998 & 1999 penny, forgive me but I'm not a coin collector and I had been going through all the coins I have and just organizing them. Searching on the internet and found this site. So here is my question I have 30 pennies from 1998 and 13 pennies from 1999.

What is it exactly that is so rare about these pennies? Is it rare if the letters AM are spaced apart? What are the other ones worth if the letters AM are touching each other? Is there something else I should be looking for on these coins?

Thank you

with everyone here. Awesome find. These bring a hefty premium over face. The best part is, the 98 is the hardest and most rare of all the WAM's to find. Awesome find spetti2000

Actually the 1999 is the hardest of the WAM's to find. The 1998 and 2000 are far more common.

I'm sure some of you by now, figured out that I'm not a coin collector just by some of the questions I have asked. I want to learn so now I would like to know what is WAM? I have several 1998's 1999's & 1944's pennies and many other years.

I have read about the 1943 but the one I have is silver and I understand if the magnate sticks to the 43 penny it's of no value. Haven't figured out how to upload yet but trying.

I'm beginning to like the search! Thanks everyone for your input.

After 1993 they should be Close AM cents. But during the 1998-2000 cents, the Philly mint had some Wide AM cents hubs that got mixed in with the business strike hubs. So you can find some Wide AM's on the 1998-2000 business strike cents.

Also you can find some Close AM cents on the proof coins from 1998 and 1999.

The 1998-2000 WAM's are my most favorite!
I have found a good amount of 2000's in my crh!
Though my prized is my MS 63 '98!

Congrats to you!
