Thanks for the correction jbuck. I didn't have any on hand to look at and was going from memory. The ones I had in the past didn't have a copper band on the rim but after looking at some Google images, I see that some of them do have a faint copper band.

Quote: There were no 90% blanks in the mint in 67... only some off struck 65's Are these 90% 65's considered error coins? How common are they?

Not common at all, as far as I know they are pretty valuable, how valuable... someone here will know.

So unlike the copper 1983 Lincoln Cent which no one has found yet, there are some rare 90% 65's that have been found. I guess I should check the few I have for the heck of it.

I have found 40% halves from roll searching because the previous searcher saw the copper band and assumed it was not silver. He or she had even marked the edge with a black marker just like a bunch of other halves in the box, so that's why I look at every single date. The quick eyeball test doesn't always tell the story. :)

Quote: There have been reports of copper 1983 cents. Well that makes me feel like I am not wasting my time weighing every 1983 I find. Because I didn't know that any have actually been found.

Wow, this is one of the most impressive necro-bumps I've seen yet...nearly 8 years! And the last post (before yours) was from a member no longer with us. For uploading pictures, check the "Tutorials" button on the top of the screen. Hoping you do indeed have the real deal!

You say your coin is "considerably heavier", what is the actual weight? From that we will be able to tell if further tests are needed.

Remember that 40% silver Kennedy halves can weigh up to 11.90 grams and still be in mint tolerance. If you have a calibrated balance that weighs a purportedly 40% silver half at over 12.0 grams then you have something to investigate.
