Actually...use it as a guide to learn how to over emphasize the positives of something that has NO positive about it.
If they could get PCGS or NGC to slab cow dung with a "first day issue MS69"....they could sell it.

Sure, HSN has it's value: for the uninformed buyer who has oodles of cash and not the slightest interest in learning a quck fact ot two about what he/she is buying. It's paying top dollar for common grade/date material but without any of the legwork involved, so really what being paid for is the work involved, the actual coins are secondary. Doing the smallest amount of reasearch can yield some nice dividends. HSN is basically for the lazy, but it sure is entertaining.

I watched the show two nights ago and have listed below all the coins offered with prices. Naturally I didn't 'bite' at any, but business seemed to be brisk again. I'm looking for your thoughts on the offers. 1) 2014 Native American Coin & Currency. Priced at (about) $160.00 + $9 shipping. 2) 1892 + 1983 World Columbian Expo 1/2 Dollar commemorative 2-pack. Price $100.00 + shipping. 3) 1 Troy ounce silver bars. Priced at $27.95 each (no limits). Depending on how many were bought, shipping was $5.95 - $10.95. also, 10oz Troy silver bars for $279.95. 4) 1999-2009 silver proof sets (11 years total). Priced at $900.00. 5) Two uncirculated Franklin half-dollars. Priced at $60.00. 6) Secret-Silver Centennial Sets (1976). Total of 6 coins: 2 Kennedy halves, 2 Washington quarters, and 2 Roosevelt dimes, one proof and one uncirculated of each. Price = $80.00 7) 1942-1945 Jefferson silver nickel set (11 pieces). Priced at $200.00. I think they were offered as uncirculated. He said it was a great deal, as they normally run $32 each!

Quote: HSN is the best sitcom on TV. I agree, my son and I will sit and watch their "deals" and laugh through the whole thing. I can remember one time I had just bought 3 O mint Morgans all certified at 64. That same day they were selling them "at a reduced price" of more than double what I had just paid. Thats not saying how much I saved by not buying at their regular cost!!

Similar caution should be issued for magazine ads for silver dollars.

You got it. This thread was dormant nearly four years before you revived it. To your credit, you added something relevant to the topic.

Ahh! I just didn't want to be the one responsible for opening the one millionth thread. :)
In reality, I've always thought that it's best to re-use an existing thread instead of starting a new (and similar) thread. Good manners and such!

Quote: Thread necromancy! Kudos to @atticguy For not starting what would have surely been the 1547th thread about HSN or Mike Mezack. There should be severe penalties for starting new threads on certain subjects instead of resurrecting one of the hundreds of previous threads on the subject. Examples being : "Did you see how much they were selling this coin for on HSN?" or "Is this 1943 copper cent real?" or the always enjoyable and new thread worthy "What does everyone think PM's are going to do next?"
