Quote:I have no interest in them, so I have to vote for the new Presidential dollars. I have one in my type collection, and that will probably be the last one I collect. In any forum that one wins the least used, liked, wanted.

I think the true way to find out what the least "Popular" coins is, is to take a poll of what people collect. The one least collected, would be the least popular. Everything else would be opinion. I voted for the Susan B. Anthony dollar in the Modern section's version of this. But I do have a full set of them.

Funny timing on this question. I've just been working on my collections of Ikes, Peace dollars and SBAs. I also really like the 3 cent silver though most of mine are annoyingly worn. My least favorite is probably Shield nickels. They're just sloppy looking in the lower grades and I don't like them enough to pay for higher grades.

My vote is 20 cent pieces. Not a very attractive obverse or reverse. Dumb denomination.

My observations of the least popular designs people collect has a lot to do with the attractiveness of the design, availability, and the cost to do so. The odd type coins such as the Two Cent, Three Cent, and Twenty Cent Pieces have historically fallen out the view of most collectors as those series ended well before 1900. ANA LM-3175

My vote for the least popular coin to collect is the 1792 Half Disme. Liberty looks like she was beat with the ugly stick big time. Also there weren't that many minted and they are very rare thus making it out of reach for most collectors.

Barber quarters are near the bottom; the set is really hard to do because of the keys, and many people don't like the series (finding it 'bland' or whatever). To many people, odd denominations are 'cooler' because they're well...odd. The Barber halves and dimes are more completable as a set and the halves are often used as a silver investment these days, so the quarters get left in the dust.

I dislike the Barber design on the quarter. Funny thing is I actually seek the coins that most people here dislike - 2 cent, 3 c nickel and silver, Shield nickels, 20 cents (OK, I only have 1 one of those). They have always appealed to me because they are odd series. Bonus is when I meet a dealer who has them, I usually get a good deal since there are so few of Me's out there. Downside is I have to be very patient to get the quality of coin that I want.

My vote goes for Susie B. I bought a large collection of U.S. coins and ended up getting just face value for most of the SBA's in UNC. The exceptions were the 81 and 99's. I disagree with the Peace dollars however. You take a good high MS Peace dollar and it really has a deep glow/finish. I completed a set of them in BU (34S AU-58) and they are actually one of my favorite sets. Paleoguy

I have noticed when people look at the 7070 album allot of them dis not even know there was such a thing as a Half Cent, 3 cent nickel or dime or Twenty Cent Piece. Some of these people call themselves coin collectors also (even though they haven't collected over a couple years) but they had never seen them until I have shown them my album. Now they knew what every modern coin was and they are not rich so most of their collection would be from pocket change or ones they have picked up at like the flea market or such places. But what I have also noticed is they all knew the Morgan, Peace dollar, capped bust, walking and seated series (even if they didn't know the correct name for them) when they saw them

I also dislike all of the presidential coins. Who wants to look at a bunch of unattractive dead men ?
The classic Miss Liberty coins such as the Walkers and SLQ were works of art !

I agree with the critiques of the modern base metal $1s, but my pick is the Roosevelt dime. Utterly bland (especially when compared to its predecessor), and it features a flaming socialist on the obverse.

I agree about the presidential coins. Their designs are completely lacking grace or imagination. They look like they could be subway tokens.
