I pay most bills online, so I rarely use stamps. Today I used bills to purchase a milk shake and got coins in change.

Why would you collect paper? At least as a coin collector, if your collection is in a fire, you still have lumps of gold, silver and copper bullion. A stamp collector would just have ash.

Quote: I think that stamps will become obsolete before coins do. More people using the internet instead of mailing stuff. And how do they get their stuff after using the Interwebs?

The majority of stuff I buy online comes with a pre-printed label with metered mail. No stamps.

However, in July I received a package covered in 71 stamps

Quote: A stamp collector would just have ash. Stamps aren't collected for their fire-retardant qualities, but for the same reason coins are--beauty, scarcity, historic value, etc. That said, I've been told by a few dealers that quality counterfeits have taken a huge toll on collector demand/value. Obviously, a lot less engineering is needed to forge stamps than coins. Hearing that gave me pause, hoping coin forgeries never get as widespread as stamps.

biggfredd, I love the pictures How come none of the stamps on the box are cancelled? Plus, I'm not sure you've got enough stamps on the fridge to cover the postage based on weight.

A sad commentary on stamp collecting..... I often buy things on ebay that are mailed with older postage, presumably bought at a disount to face value. This week was a new low as far as a commentary on stamp collecting goes. I got a package this week with a lovely block of 4 of the 4 cent 1947 Graham Bell Canada issue on it. It is sad that this is now only worth $0.16 as postage. Not a very good return for holding it for the last 63 years.

Box-
I hadn't mailed it yet. See "Bigg Fredd" on the pink address label.
Fridge-
I was an easy place to dry $800 face in stuck stamps. Just soak them in the sink, rinse, and slap them on the fridge. Once they're dry, they automagically fall off.

, Smallcentguy! The problem with stamps is speculators can quickly pile up enough of an issue to fill a dealer's needs for decades. The CAPEX issue had everything going for it. We bought over $6000 worth, and it never did go anywhere. Lots of postage.
