Quote: That's why I always look at the 1970-S cent Small Date closely because I've seen Large Dates labeled as Small dates from PCGS. I guess Marve65 understands that PCGS is not the numismatist's God...

Quote: You say "you avoid NGC", but don't give a reason why you "avoid NGC"? Huh - I don't think I could be any more clear on why I avoid NGC if at all possible. You should reread my comment.

Yes, I did read your opinion. It's just my opinion and view on what collectors get out of making a particular company the numismatic grading Gods... Just a side note: The Museum of Natural History in NY, 80% of their coin displays are inside NGC slabs. Maybe it's because of a more presentable-looking slab, I don't know...

Quote: Yes, I did read your opinion. OK, then what is my reason for not buying an IHC in an NGC slab?

Did NGC grade this lovely IHC wrong? As some say, they give higher grades to coin... (UNC Detail - Cleaned) BTW, this is one of my IHC - should I break it out and send it back to them

This is starting to feel like a pollution of the Canadian grading forum..not much of relevance has been said after the comment by Bosox and now I'm seeing talk of CAC(they don't even grade Canadian) and scrolling through images of US coins..maybe time to clean it up or refocus the discussion. For the original topic, all companies have off days and they all have different criteria for various series etc.. none are perfect. I've seen wildly overgraded and wildly undergraded coins from all companies, and I've seen many coins misattributed by all of them as well, it will never be perfect no matter where you go because it will always be the opinions of individuals.. When I get a misattributed coin I address it with the TPG and get it fixed for free, when I have a coin that is undergraded I send it back to try my luck or submit it to a different TPG..it just is what it is.
feel free to call me Will. I'm a collector/dealer from the Greater Toronto area
my PMs are always open, whether you have a question or simply wish to talk!

Quote: [..] Maybe it's because of a more presentable-looking slab, I don't know... @CoinForMe: it's a matter of taste. Personally I find NGC slabs very ugly and not quality-looking The label looks like something I would have done in paint in 1999. The slab is rough and the white plastic makes looking at the coin more difficult and make it look cheap IMO. Again.. all matter of taste! We see a lot of official "deals" being made with NGC. Like first strake in UK and all. I think it boils down to NGC being better at making compelling deals with such institution (or better presence in certain countries / less hassle with export for grading, etc) and not at all with the fact that the institution trusts NGC vs PCGS or whatnot.

Quote: This is starting to feel like a pollution of the Canadian grading forum... You are correct. Grading forums are for grading coins, not grading the graders. That being said, this topic has been moved to the appropriate forum for the proper attention.

I saw Graded Canadian coins and, incorrectly, I guess, placed this topic under " Grade Canadian Coin." jbuck, you can lock this topic, enough has been said about the coin in the opening post #1, it seems we all agree it's not an MS63. Thanks!

Wow! Without magnaication, the numerous gouges on the bust and countless others along the rim fall under a circulation grade. An EF would be generous.
