I have what many may think is a ridiculous question, but I am willing to ask it. I picked up a Whitman coin folder and I am having an asinine time trying to get my coins into the slots. Any tips, short of using a hammer?

I always hammered in a 'dummy coin' to get the holes looser and then put in the real coins gently. Worked well and never hammered any good coins.

They are tough at times.

A while back someone told me they used a wooden dowel and then used a mallet to press them in.

Or best yet, do this -->

Fred, I suggest a lot of finger tip push ups. Get those digits pumped up dude. No more girly man fingers.

I hadnt thought of the junk coin and hammer idea. I will have to try that.

I use a round pen (not the writing side of course), circling against the edges inside the opening. Works great.

Caution using folders - many of my coins were ruined b/c the material the folders were made of absorbed atmospheric moisture and the backs of the coins lost their luster b/c of it. Granted - this was after they were in storage for 10 years - but I had them in what I thought was environmentally safe storage. If I could go back and do it all over - I would use 2X2's in 3-ring binder pages. It takes up more space, but my coins would be in the BU condition (OBV and REV) they were when I first put them into the folders.

I use a Whitman folder too. That is a good idea Earle42. I was thinking of doing that when I started to get in Half coins but right now with my Lincoln Pennies and State Quarters I do not worry to much because I just pull everything out of circulation!

Earle, one word. Desiccants. You can get bunches of the packs for very low prices through every coin supply place I have seen online.
