I found a weird penny in my pocket today that has really deep rim. The rim is the thickness of a nickel but the middle penny part is normal thickness. Is this on the wrong planchet? Thick penny front Thick penny back Thick penny on top of normal penny Thick penny on top of nickel, regular penny to left. Edited by decimus28UMO 03/30/2012 11:37 pm

looks like a " Dryer Coin". Caused by being in a commercial dryer too long.

Wow, nice pictures. It's definitely going in my worthless but cool collection. Its looks like someone glued a ring to a penny. Thanks for the info!

Amazing how commercial dryers can melt our coins fairly quickly, but takes forever (and a fortune) to dry our clothes.

Based on the OP and coop's images....looks like 1993 was a good year for Dryer Coins! Lol

@1951error, you should create a new thread about the coin. And please try to upload a photo.

Learn something new every day. I've found a number of those and have always thought they were the result of going through some sort of novelty machine.

Hi guys I'm new here, just because I have a question about one of my coin that looks exactly like this one...and I just found one on ebay too, the three of our coins look exactly the same, even the date 1993. Oh and the one that is on the " Dryer Coin" sample is 1993 too... So I'm like, is it really? I'm just wondering because accordingg to the Dryer Coin description it should "roll" towards inside but not this one that I have... Just wondering what a coincidence that we all have these weird looking coin that is of the same year! Try to upload pic from phone but failed...here is a link to the ebay one I found, current bid is $28.75, still going up!
