Picked this up from a good sport, got it reasonable. I am trying to verify a grade, it is in ANACS plastic. Whatcha think? I will try to describe the luster. At first glance, the coin appears quite dark. But turn it to the light and the luster is quite striking. I can't quite get it to cartwheel, but it is close. I don't want to say to much . . . will be interested to hear your comments.   |

reverse looks wiped a bit...its a strong high AU...nice pick up

The wiped appearance on the reverse (wreath side?) seems to be akin to a slight "woody" appearance. Copper is not my thing, so I am probably saying all kinds of wrong things.
I do not believe it has been wiped.
I did get it to cartwheel if I hold it just right, but it is minimal.
I wish I could capture the luster in the photo, but no dice.
I am looking for a break in the luster on the arrow points and the "we". Am I looking in the right place?
What are the pick up points for this series?
I checked, and see that quite a few of these have come across this forum in the last few weeks. They must be fairly common . . .

The scratch at the top of the shield side is in the plastic . . .

I would say high AU at minimum but possibly a MS coin. I think I see a rub on the leaves on the obverse so that is why I am hedging here. Possible light cleaning from pictures. Cool things going on with it: little Cud on the obverse, attractive woody on the reverse, cracks on reverse. Very nice coin! Better than any 2 centers in my collection.  EDIT: meant to say cracks on the reverse, not obverse. Edited by CoinsKelly

Old white ANACS holder, Blue label or the new Orange label? Grading standards have varied so much over the last few years they it will make a difference the type of holder its in and the grade they assigned. Sad but true.
There are a few distracting hits on the coin that would keep it from making high MS, if its in the new holder I suspect ANACS gave it an MS62 But looking at your comments about the color they don't match the image so its just a guess on my part. If its a nice chocolate brown and has full luster they may have added points for eye appeal.

Moved the lights around a bit and this is pretty close to the actual color. It is an ANACS small white holder. With barcode. If that is supposed to be a hologram on the back, it is pretty sad.  |

OK, here it is. I tracked the holder down to a type 13 (?) holder of 1992 or so. Six digit barcode. You guys think I should crack it out? Cross it over? Enjoy it? As I said, copper is not my thing really, I will probably sell it. Thanks for the replies!!  Edited by Jon K

It would have to go to 63 to make any real money over 58, and even then not a home run. If I do crack it out, it will be just for fun.  |

Looking at the coin in hand, I am looking for wear on the high points. The arrows, the "WE" and if it is there I can't see it. Looking for a break in the luster or the color, it all looks the same as far as I can see.
Really no reason to crack it out in any case, the money just isn't there.
Can someone articulate what I should be looking for? To separate a high AU from a low MS?
