Hello:) I bought this 1875 Indian for 38$. In my opinion it is XF40 coin, but unfortunately reverse has two scratches. Cleaned? Please grade this coin for me with your professional eye. Do you think 38$ was good price for this Indian penny? Thank you for answers.

I'd also say VF-35 and yeah, cleaned. Still, I would have bought it for that price if I had the need for that year.

I'm with the others on VF-35 but not sure if it has been cleaned based on these photos.

VF cleaned. For the price you paid that's an okay deal.

I'm not prepared to call it cleaned based on these images - direct lighting for digital photography tends to exaggerate the difference in brightness between adjacent surfaces. The scratches are almost certainly market-acceptable at this level of wear. Closer to 35 than 40, I think, but still nicely done at the price.

My thoughts on cleaning were it was rubbed down with a cloth exposing the brighter areas, it might not get a details grade as SsuperDdave mentioned the scratches are more like normal wear and not from any cleaning. It was more the overall apearance I was seeing the discoloration if you will. I agree with him it is a higher end VF as well.
