I live on the West coast and I rarely find Philadelphia Minted coins. Most of the coins I see are either old S mint or D mint. Is it the opposite for you guys on the east coast?

Well it is for me. I live in Florida and I find a lot of mostly P and D. S mint marked coins are pretty uncommon for me. - Tony Well that was redundant - a lot of mostly I'd say my mix is around 60% P and 40% D.

I wonder if you are in the geographic middle of the US, do you get a good mix of all three mint marks? That would be cool!

I live 2 minutes from the Philadelphia Mint so you can imagine what I see most of the time.
I do see a good share of the others, could be because of the tourist industry here (Atlantic City, Wildwood, Historic Philadelphia, our International Airport, etc.), many people rolling in and out of this area and everyone brings a little change.

Even with all the tourist that come here to Cape Cod from all over the country, I only see P and D mint marks.

Here in San Antonio Texas, I see mostly Denver mints. Philly mints are incredibly rare! And S mints? They still make those for circulation?

In Georgia it is mostly P, with some Ds. I keep every S mint mark I find since almost never find any.

Odd no one has noticed that the S mint coins are proofs ONLY. You will not be finding S coins in change unless someone spent their proof sets. In Chicago just D and P coins naturally. Mostly always D.

In Utah we get lots of D and S mint marks and very few P. And S mint marks are circulated coins, I see way too many of them for them to all be proofs. BTW where are coins without mint marks made?

Hiya Just Carl,
Currently being minted - yes San Francisco strikes proofs but San Francisco was minting business strikes in the not too distant past. Just looking at the coin facts section of this site, you can see that there were quite a few 1974 S Lincoln Cents ( and prior and other denominations) that were business strikes.
I do occasionally find S mint marks while searching coin rolls here in Orlando, but they are pretty rare. I have found one nickel and maybe a dozen or so pennies. It would be nice to have a larger population of coins from that mint available in my neck of the woods. You would think that with Disney World and other amusement parks here that a larger variety of coins would be available. Heck - I find more foreign coins in rolls than I do S mint. I have a box of pennies I got from the bank today and just scanning through them this afternoon I found two dimes, four canadian pennies, a british penny and five wheaties, but I haven't yet found an S mint mark in this box. Still looking of course, so there may be one in the box - maybe.
Laters - Tony
Well, I just found a 1969 S Lincoln in this box. But I have found 6 wheaties including a 1920 in the same amount of searching in this box.
